Oh Well

Rebecca made her first “friend” phone call today. Sure she has talked on the phone numerous times, while mostly with family, she has even talked to friends a few times. Today however was the first day that she asked to call a friend and chat. Her good friend was not at school today and for Becca that is a very big deal. She has yet to miss a day of school and is always very concerned if a friend is missing.
After identifying herself to the mother of said friend Becca asked why her daughter was not at school today. The mother explained that her daughter had not felt well this morning, at which point Becca’s eyes bolted to mine and she gave me a very satisfied and triumphant look followed by her covering the phone and with her hand (the things they pick up on) and whispering to me, “I thought so!”. Bravo super slooth Becca, you cracked the case of the missing student.
Moments later Becca was busy chatting with her friend and filling her in on all the details of the missed school day. She informed her that another little girl who had been sitting in the square next to Becca had been moved to a new square and now Becca was stuck sitting by another boy, which she would have liked last week when the plan was set for Becca and this boy to get married. However Becca is over him now and on to Coleman, her cousin (yes I have tried and tried to explain…) and so she told her friend all about him (Coleman that is). Her friend replied with a description of her own cousin that she planned on marrying, including details about how he is “just so cute”…The conversation jumped between “and he has curly hair”, “then we went to the cafeteria and I got hot lunch” and “I wore my favorite pink shirt, you know that one with the heart and little jewels…” and 10 hilarious minutes later is was done.
I think this just may be the beginning of the end…
What is a child to do on a cold winter day when their mean mother will not let them get into the hot tub?
Happy birthday my Becca boo. You have reached the ripe old age of 6 years today my little lady and you are quite proud of yourself. You have a calendar in your bedroom that you have been counting down on for the last month and we have all be recieving (at the minimum) daily updates as to the status of your birthday. You were very concerned that you were now only one year older than Kate, and after listening to many taunts of, “I’m going to catch you Becca, then I am going to be the older sister” you really could not wait for this special day to arrive.
You are now an elementary school kid, a kid. I am really not sure how this all happened since just yesterday you were my little newborn. Kindergarten has given you so much confidence and unfortunately a little attitude as well. You are one of the (if not the) smartest in your class and to quote your teacher just last week, “a great example to the other students”. You listen and obey and are very disciplined about your work. A few weeks ago you told me about a little boy in your class who was misbehaving and how he was put on time out. We chatted about him for a bit and then I asked you if you have even been put on time out, you looked at me like I had just slapped you and said very emphatically, “never!”.
It has been hard for you to separate from Kate for so long each day, you two really miss each other. You are still the ideal big sister, always looking out for the little one in any setting really. You have made a couple really good friends at school and enjoy spending time with them, in fact you have asked to live with them on numerous occasions. I comfort myself by saying you would miss us if you were gone that long. I am not sure if you buy it or not but it seems to do the trick.
Becca you have always had a love for animals, but before this year it could be related a bit more to Darla from Finding Nemo then compassionate love. You have grown out of your Darla stage, you know the one where I was recording you showing me the frog you found in the back yard and then out of no where you say, “do you want to fly froggie?” and before I can do anything you have thrown the poor little frog at least 10 feet in the air…the camera even picked up the splatter. Now you spend time each day snuggling your kitten gently, it is really adorable. You have such a gentle spirit about you Becca and now that you have grown up a bit, animals really love you.
I love watching you grow and progress. I can’t say I am glad you are getting big so fast, I do miss my little baby, but I am definitely amazed at what an impressive little girl you have become. I love you with everything I have Miss Becca and I wish you a very happy birthday.
…time to play catch up. For those who didn’t hear me singing from the roof top, the semester is over. The holidays are also over, which means I actually have a moment. Unfortunately I am without a laptop for oneish more weeks. I will post all the stuff I intended to post over the last two months as soon as I can.
For those who don’t know the drill (since this has happened quite a few times on my blog), I will be back dating the new posts to their appropriate dates, so if you are not on a reader, scroll down. :)
